Lawmakers Elect Rahmani as Parliament Speaker

New lawmakers on Saturday elected Mir Rahman Rahmani as the new Speaker for the Lower House of Parliament.
Rahmani got 123 votes while his competitor Kamal Nasir Osuli got only 55 votes.
In the first round of the voting on May 16, four MPs, including Mir Rahman Rahmani, Kamal Naser Osuli, Mirwais Yasini, and Omar Naseer Mujadadi competed but none of the candidates were able to obtain the fifty percent plus one vote.
The election went to the second round between the two leading candidates Mir Rahman Rahmani and Kamal Naser Osuli.
Rahmani, an MP from Parwan, is a former military general who has completed his studies in Russia.
He has served as the Head of Bagram Social Council, member of National Economic Commission of the Parliament, an army general, Head of Parwan Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
