The $1.7 billion CASA-1000 project was inaugurated by the officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah participated in the inauguration ceremony of the project in Tajikistan on Afghanistan’s behalf.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, Kyrgyzstan’s Prime Minister, and President of Tajikistan.

CASA-1000 project will pave the way for the transmission of electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Afghanistan and Pakistan through 1,250 kilometers of high voltage transmission line.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan said last month that the World Bank, United States, United Kingdom, European Investment Bank and Islamic Development Bank have committed to support the project.

Afghanistan will have an income of $45 million from the project, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
