One person got killed and 4 wounded in a rocket attack on governor’s compound in northern Baghlan province.

Officials say that the fired rocket from unknown location was the BM1 type which hits the wall of governor’s compound.

Confirming the incident, chairman of Baghlan’s public health department, Ahmad Bariz Saheb Zada noted that one child and a member of provincial council are among the wounded.

Baghlan province is located on the only trans-Hindukush highway in Afghanistan and the major transit route between the Afghan capital Kabul and the north; the road forks at the northern edge of Pul-e Khumri, taking goods and travellers either northwest to Mazar-e Sharif in Balkh province, or northeast towards Kunduz.

The province is perhaps the most strategic of Afghanistan’s 14 northern provinces. Home to an ethnically mixed population estimated at 763,000, it commands one end of the Salang Pass, the only passage through the Hindu Kush mountains, linking Kabul with the country’s northern tier and neighboring Central Asia.
