15 Taliban insurgents were killed and 7 others wounded in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan, local security officials said.

Kunduz police chief Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh said the operation was launched last night in Ganem and Hazrat Sultan areas of Kunduz city in which 15 Taliban militants were killed and 7 others were injured.

Currently, the operation is continuing slow, because the Taliban have planted mines in the area, he added.

Taliban have not made a comment yet.

The operation launched after reports emerged about increased Taliban activities inside the city.

Kunduz is among the volatile provinces in north of Afghanistan where the Taliban have firm strongholds in most of its districts and the group was able to shortly capture the city last year.
