4 Killed as Suicide Bomber Hits Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan

An explosion has targeted the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan, killing four and wounding at least 14 others.

The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. local time on Saturday when an explosion occurred at Bagram Airfield, which is a large U.S. military base that is located in Parwan province, just north of Kabul.

According to the reports, a suicide bomber has managed to enter the base among a group of workers reporting for duty at  the early morning.

“An explosive device was detonated on Bagram Airfield resulting in multiple causalities. Four people have died in the attack and approximately 14 have been wounded,” the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission said in a statement.

In a twitter post, Zabihullah Mujahid the Taliban’s spokesman credit the group for the attack and claimed a heavy death toll to the American soldiers.

In the RS statement, the US Army, Commander of Resolute Support, General John Nicholson offering his deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the attack said,” let me assure you they are receiving the best care possible, and we will keep them in our thoughts today”.

The US General further vows that RS and U.S. forces will continue to train, advise and assist the Afghan forces aiming to create a better Afghanistan.

Bagram Airfield is located in northeastern Afghanistan in Parwan province, about an hour north of Kabul.
