65 Taliban militants give up fighting in Faryab
A total of 65 armed militants, according to Shahbaz Iraj, the spokesman of first vice president of Afghanistan, give up fighting and surrendered to government forces in Faryab province on Sunday.
The former Taliban commander was named as Rahim who was operating with his men in Khwaja Qeshri area of Khwaja Sabz Posh district of Faryab province.
The commander was welcomed by first vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum, Iraj said.
He added that last Wednesday, 115 more militants surrendered to governmental forces let by General Dostum in Astana Baba and Dasht-i-Leili area of Faryab province.
Reportedly, the Afghan security forces have gained huge success during the last couple of days in Faryab amid the presence of first vice president who is commanding troops in the war against militants in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces.
According to the reports most of the Taliban militants fighting against the government in Faryab are ethnic Uzbeks.
Taliban have not made a comment about this report so far.
Faryab is among the volatile provinces in north of Afghanistan where the insurgents are operating in a number of its districts.
