Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah believes access to information is very effective in the process of good governance and eradication of corruption.

Addressing “National Access to Information Strategy” conference in Kabul on Sunday, Abdullah said that corruption has reached its peak in Afghanistan and having access to information helps to reduce this phenomenon.

He also stressed that the state institutions are obliged to adhere to it.

“In a country where corruption has reached its peak, having access to information is very important and all institutions should cooperate and adhere to it,” Abdullah said. “This is the people’s right and most people still are not aware of that,” he added.

The Oversight Commission on Access to Information (OCAI) said that because of bureaucracy, the right to access to information was not being formalized in the government.

However, the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development said that they are determined to implement the strategy of having access to information in which “the responsibility of everyone is specified.”

The head of OCAI, Sayed Ikram Afzali stressed that the implementation of the law of having access to information will lead the government to transparency, meet the demands of the people and solve many challenges that exist in the country.
