ACCI Calls On Gov’t to Rethink over Commercial Attaches

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has called on government to rethink about the commercial attaches; citing the commercial attachés inefficiency has caused the country’s goods to not have a good sale  market in the global markets.

“We expected the commercial attaches to do marketing in Iran, Pakistan, India, US and any other countries, but they have failed in their duties and we call for rethinking about them,” said Sayam Pesarlay, spokesman of ACCI.

The attaches were based in 19 countries, excluding India, Pakistan and Iran, Pesarlay added.

Economic analysts considered the failure of commercial attaches due to the lack of experiences and professionalism.

“Unfortunately, the regulations is governing relations. If this process to be continued, we will lose one of the effective ways for economic development,” said Muhammad Shabir Basheri, economic analyst.

This comes as that the government has recently suspended 23 commercial attaches alleging they were not qualified for the positions..

Afghanistan has a population of almost 30million, a multi-lingual workforce and a cost-competitive labor environment.

Domestic industries such as telecommunications, construction, building materials, financial services are growing quickly.

Opportunities for new investment range from traditional industries and sectors such as agriculture and mining to the fast evolving technology sectors and hydrocarbon industry.
