Acting FM Rabbani Meets Chinese Counterpart, Discusses Bilateral Cooperation

Afghan Acting Foreign Minister, Salahuddin Rabbani met with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Kabul on Saturday, discussed regional cooperation, and extending bilateral cooperation.

In the meeting held at the Store Palace of Foreign Affairs Ministry (MoFA), Foreign Minister of China Wang YI has called the following up of the agreements reached between the two countries at the recent Shanghai Sideline meeting, MoFA said in a statement.

The agreements were in the field of joint struggle against terrorism and violent extremism, china’s support of the Afghan Peace Process, regional cooperation, and extending bilateral cooperation as his main goals of visit to Afghanistan, MoFA statement noted.

Praising the efforts of Afghan government for peace, Minister Wang Yi expressed his assurance of China’s cooperation with the “Kabul Process”  and that country’s comprehensive support for Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

The Chinese official also appreciated the sacrifices and  achievements of the Afghan security and defense forces in the fight against terrorism. He, meanwhile, emphasized on the need for more bilateral and regional cooperation and coordination for a complete success against terrorism.

Thanking China for its important role in peace, stability and economic development of Afghanistan, Minister Rabbani said: The Kabul Process echoes the leadership and ownership of Afghanistan in the peace process, and it supports all discussions about Afghanistan’s peace in all mechanisms and platforms.”

He added that peace and stability in Afghanistan requires a regional coordination and consensus. and “called China’s role significant in supporting Afghanistan’s demand for honest and practical cooperation and coordination among regional countries.”

“During the meeting, both sides discussed bilateral cooperation and emphasized the extension of such cooperation in political, security, economic, business, and cultural fields,” the statement added.
