Afghan Ambassador to the United States, Hamdullah Mohib who was invited to speak at Johns Hopkins University about the future of Afghanistan and its potential to play its historical role as the region’s hub for economic integration linked the country’s stability to international cooperation, particularly the Asian countries.

The embassy of Afghanistan in US writes that the Ambassador explained the significance of Afghanistan’s location in linking the region and the vast opportunities it presents as a land bridge to connect South and Central Asia.

“Afghanistan’s ideal location as the ‘region’s roundabout’ means that our full participation with our Asian neighbors on trade, development, security, energy, transport, transit and production will benefit the entire region,” said the Ambassador.

He highlighted Afghan government’s efforts to forge regional agreements and economic partnerships in reviving Afghanistan’s historic position as the hub for the new Silk Road and turning Afghanistan into an essential link for trade, development, energy, commerce, production, and transport within, across, and beyond the Central, South and East Asian region.

“East and South Asia are starving for power — they are net importers of energy. They need links to Central Asia’s vast energy resources to fuel their development, and those links run through Afghanistan,” said Ambassador Mohib.

The Ambassador also talked about the challenges Afghanistan is facing and the goal it pursues to achieve stability and self-reliance.

“Afghanistan needs the long-term engagement of international partners, including Asian countries not only in terms of aid, but in terms of investment in sectors like infrastructure, natural resources, and energy,” stressed the Ambassador.

He added that a prosperous and peaceful Afghanistan as the regional roundabout was in the best interest of its neighbors and the entire Asian region. “In a globalized world, inter-connectivity is the only way forward, and we are committed to this path,” concluded the Ambassador.

Afghanistan embassy to US is said to believe that the international commitment in the Brussels summit confirmed that a stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in interest of all the world.
