Afghan Envoy Requests Samiul Haq to Support Afghan-led Peace Process

Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai called on Maulana Samiul Haq to raise his voice and back Afghanistan’s peace process, a statement released on Saturday said.

Mosazai called on Maulana Samiul Haq, chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, known as the ‘father of the Taliban’, at the latter’s residence in Akora Khattak, Nowshera, days after he and thousands of his seminary declared allegiance to the Taliban new chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.

According to a statement released Mosazai has told beside governmental efforts religious scholars, politicians and tribal elders can also play a key role in peace and reconciliation process and they must raise their voices to stabilize Afghanistan and the region.

Maulana Haq has also promised to Afghan government envoy that he will play his role and raise his voice to support peace and stability in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the statement added.

Reports suggest that Mosazai has asked Maulana Haq to mediate between Afghan government and Afghan Taliban for peace talks resumptions, but Mosazai writes on his official Twitter, “We haven’t asked Maulana Samiul Haq to mediate peace talks, but we have asked him to back peace process. Pakistani media has invented the word mediation”.

Afghan government requesting Pakistani religious scholar and politician who had close ties to Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar to support peace process after the group stopped peace talks and the new leader called peace process a propaganda by enemies.
