Afghan Forces Battle Taliban to Reclaim Qal-e-Zal District: MoI

Afghan security forces continue to battle insurgents to retake Qal-e-Zal district from the Taliban in northern Kunduz province, the Interior Ministry (MoI) said Sunday.

The Taliban armed group took control of Qal-e-Zal district on Saturday, following two days of heavy clashes with Afghan security forces.

Acting spokesman of the Interior Ministry, Najib Danish said: “The enemy has suffered heavy casualties in Kunduz, 37 killed including [commanders] Qari Belal, Shamshad, Abdul Rauf and Habib Naseri.”

Danish also informed about arrest of two insurgents in Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces who were engaged in suicide attacks and roadside bomb making.

 The Interior Ministry acting spokesman further said operations are underway against the insurgents in Kunduz, Helmand and Ghor provinces.

“Afghan security forces have launched operations in three provinces that left 51 dead and over 30 wounded to the enemy.”

The Afghan forces operations against the Taliban come after the group have briefly captured Kunduz city twice since last two years.
