Afghan forces recaptures Yemgan district in Badakhshan – Officials

Afghan security forces have retaken the control of Yemgan district of northern Badakhshan on Sunday morning, officials have said.

Sediq Sediqi MoI spokesman confirmed the report saying the clearance operation is underway, but Badakhshan provincial police chief, Gen. Baba Jaan has said that Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) ended a clearance operation successfully early this morning around 8:00 am.

ANSF recaptures Yemgan district, but at the same time they lose another district in northern Kunduz province. Last night Taliban fighter took the control of Chardara district of Kunduz.

Kunduz police chief, Gen. Saboor Nasrati has said to Ariana News on Sunday that they are struggling to recapture the district.

“An operation has been launched since last night, currently heavy clashes continue.”

Gen. Nasrati added that 17 Taliban fighters and three Afghan soldiers have been killed and 21 insurgents and six soldiers are wounded as the clashes continue in a distance of two kilometer near the district.

Taliban have not commented about the new clashes after they took control of Chardara district in Kunduz province.
