Afghan Gov’t Releases 55 Inmates of Hezb-e Islami Party

The Afghan government released 55 prisoners of Hezb-e Islami party based on peace agreement of the government with the party.

It was scheduled that 69 prisoners of Hezb-e Islami should have been released but the process delayed due to issues arose between the government and the party.

The Hezb-e Islami party says the remaining prisoners including the 13 inmates will be released in the near future.

Hezb-e Islami cultural head, Qaribul Rahman Saeed said, “There is no problem and the 13 inmates will be released based on the agreement of the government.”

The main reason for delaying the release of 13 prisoners was the prevention of Human Rights Commission.

Spokesman of Human Rights Commission, Belal Sidiqi said, “The exemption culture should be eliminated and any inmates jailed for violation of human rights law.”

This comes as sources close to Hezb-e Islami party say, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar will hold funeral ceremony for Ahmad Shah Masoud, Rabani and Mazari to act as national unity.

Afghanistan has signed a peace agreement with Hezb-i-Islami, paving the way for the armed group’s commander, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, to make a political comeback despite allegations of war crimes during the 1990s.
