Afghan Higher Education System Needs Fundamental Change: Ghani

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday said that the current higher education system does not meet the requirements of the country, and it needs fundamental change.

The President made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the new academic year at Kabul University.

“Higher education system needs a fundamental change and the current system as we have inherited, does not meet the economic and political requirements of our new generation,” Ghani said.

Speaking to the students, the President reiterated that Afghanistan is able to control its water resources and nobody can prevent them of doing that.

Ghani also warned that the universities are not place for political rulings, and the “universities have no place for dissensions,” it should be prevented.

The Kabul University Chief, Hamidullah Farooqi also admitted that the issue being provoked by certain circles at the University.

 President Ghani’s criticism over education system comes as some university professors believe the quality of the education being worsen because of high number of new students.
