The Afghan intelligence agency has thwarted a terrorist attack plot in Kabul city.

According to a statement released by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on Friday, a terrorist network had plotted to carry out attacks over several areas in Kabul city.

The plan was discovered and foiled by NDS operatives in Char Asiab district, approximately 11 km south of the city of Kabul.

The statement further added that four suicide vests were seized and two individuals were arrested in connection to the attack plot.

Without disclosing specific information regarding the potential target of the network, NDS said the detainees have confessed that they were looking to target public gatherings in the city.

This comes as recently the “Enlightenment Movement” which was targeted by two suicide bombers last year, planned large scale gatherings and protests in various parts of Kabul for July 23 and 24.

At the same time, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul has advised all of its citizens to limit travel within the city of Kabul on those days.
