The Lower House of Parliament- or Wolesi Jirga has set a deadline for the National Unity Government (NUG) to end the appointment of caretakers in all government institutions.

Parliament internal security commission says the directive of National Assembly has been made regarding the issue.

“The National Assembly has set a two months deadline for the government in its recent directive to end the appointment of caretakers in all institutions,” Mirdad Nigrabi, chairman of Parliament internal security commission said.

The caretakers of government institutions for long-term have always been questioning and have also followed many criticisms.

The National Unity Government has recently introduced the acting defense minister and acting head of National Directorate of Security.

In the meantime, Parliament representatives have called for introduction of acting defense minister and acting head of NDS to Parliament for taking votes of confidence.

“The Parliament has taken the issue of acting heads seriously and the documents of nominees should be reviewed as soon as possible,” Samiullah Samim, representative of Farah said.

Currently, a large number of government positions including provincial positions are directing by caretakers.

Nineteen months after its establishment in late September 2014, the NUG still struggles to appoint its key government officials.
