Afghan Police Begins Crackdown on Illegal Arms in Kabul
The first day of the campaign seemed challenging for the police, when they faced powerful individuals and government officials while ordering them to remove the black plastic sheeting from their cars’ windows.
However, Najib Danish, an Acting Spokesman for the Interior Ministry said that the plan will be applied on everyone regardless of their position.
“There is no exception and nobody can violate the law, we started from Kabul and are going to implement the plan across the country,” he said.
Kabul residents, meanwhile, believe the plan cannot be implemented on powerful people. “They stop cars of poor people, stop the cars of powerful persons!,” said a resident of the city.
“Most of the kidnappings and smuggling are taking place in these cars, there are some people who pay bribes, including MPs,” said Farhad, a Kabul resident.
The crackdown campaign against the illegal arms comes after Kabul Garrison has announced a major plan for maintaining the security of Kabul City which faces increasing armed attacks, kidnappings and robberies in recent times.
