Afghan Sikhs’ Traditional Festival Wisak held in Kabul

Sikh community celebrates the 318 year old of festival called Jashn-i-Wisak in Kabul city, by reading of Religious book, giving gifts, being guests, wearing new clothes and visiting each other in this holy day.

Amid the celebration the Sikhs believers have complained over discrimination issues who are facing with in Afghanistan.

In the following festival all Sikhs are wearing new clothes, and celebrate it with much happiness and joys because this day is matched with birth of Sikh religious.

Senator Anarkaly Hunaryar said,” this is our religious festival for all Sikh believers, the following festival was used to be held with great honors, but due to ongoing war and discrimination it has declined into few days among Sikhs.”

During the festival the holy book is read by someone it takes days to be finished each day the participants do pray for their Nation, the following book mostly insists for human beings to learn and understand.

Trader Manmohang singh estalifi said,” This is big and holy day for us, we do celebrate it, we try to visit each other in this day and read our holy book.

In the past some ten thousand Sikhs were living in Jalalabad, especially, around the “sacred springs” where the religion founder had lived. Today their number has decreased, only around 500 Sikhs are living in the city many having fled from atrocity, war and intolerance of recent decades. The Sikh minority community has lived since a long past in the country, focusing in three major cities: Kandahar, Kabul and Jalalabad.

Sikhs which organizes the minority of the Afghanistan Nation are living in Afghanistan from the past, and has suffered from ongoing war and lost their properties.
