Afghan, US leaders discussed peace talks with Taliban

U.S. President Barak Obama, during a video conference with Afghan National Unity Government leaders has discussed Afghan reconciliation process, and underscored U.S. support for the process, the White House said in a statement on Friday.

Obama has noted President Ghani’s role in “working with Afghanistan’s neighbors to deepen regional cooperation and advance the reconciliation process with the Taliban,” the statement added.

According to the statement, the U.S. President has also underscored his country support for “a peace process that reduces violence and ensures lasting stability in Afghanistan and the region” while praised the Afghan security forces for their bravery and sacrifices and ways to bolster security cooperation was discussed too.

Afghan Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah and US Vice President Joe Biden also attended the video conference headed by President Obama and President Ghani.
