Afghan Women Experience Dramatic Increase in Challenges

President Ashraf Ghani in International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women says misogyny still continues in administrative and there is still negative discrimination against women.

Ghani noted that disrespect and violence against women is contrary to Islamic and international norms; citing everyone’s responsibility, religious and human duty is to fight against this phenomenon.

“Misogyny still continues in administrative  which includes threats and prevention of women presence in administrative, “President Ghani said.

Minister of Women Affairs also emphasized on serious fight on violence against women.

“Nearly 3372 cases of violence against women recorded in the current year by the ministry of women,” Delbar Nazari, minister of women said.

Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah has also declared that women’s situation in the country is not acceptable and assured to work honestly on fighting against violence.

“The current situation is not acceptable and should not be tolerable for any of us. I assure that the government will have a honest commitment regarding this issue,” CEO said.

National Unity Government leaders, women’s rights activists and civil societies have always considered raising awareness of Afghan people from rule of law can reduce violence in the country.

In the meantime, deputy minister of commerce and industry say business women are still facing serious challenges in the country.

Qurban Haqjo, deputy minister of commerce noted that the international aid has not been used effectively for the development of women.

“A lot of money spent in the name of women in Afghanistan, but it does not have the result that people were expecting. We only focused on superficial chat, organizing short-term courses and trips.” said Qurban Haqjo, deputy minister of commerce.

Afghan business women also said that they hope practical measures to be taken for the growth of Afghan business women.

According to statistics, Afghan business women have invested about 3,7 billion Afghanis in the labor markets, but the existence of challenges caused the process work slowly.
