‘Afghanistan Action Plan for Transportation Development’ Extends for 20 Years

Ministry of Public Officials announced today in a presser that, the “Afghanistan Action Plan for Transportation Development” has been extended for another 20 years with the assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB).

According the officials, the next phase of the action plan would focus more on building transit routes, infrastructure enhancement, roads and streets maintenance.

The ministry says the action plan which started in 2006, has completed its first phase in 2016.

“We look to the new master plan as a way to connect more with neighboring countries,” Mahmood Balegh, minister for public affairs told reporters.

The new phase of the ambitious plan would need a roughly $ 26 billion which will be provide the ADB and other partners.

The ADB says the financial institution will work side by side of the Afghan to adequately implement the project.

“ADB will continue supporting Afghanistan in areas like irrigation, transit, water management, transportation and energy. Therefore, we ask the government to provide us the required support we all need in the project,” Tom Pela, ADB CEO said in the press meeting.

ADB is one of the biggest donors of Afghanistan in development projects with providing more than $ 4 billion in various sectors. The bank alone has provided $ 2.2 billion in energy access.
