Afghanistan adopts anti-Daesh strategy

The National Security Council of Afghanistan approved the strategy, in principle, to counter Daesh (IS) extremists in the country and discussed preparations for Parliamentary and District Council elections, the Afghan Presidential Office announced in a statement on Monday.

The decisions was made in the Security Council of Afghanistan, chaired by President Ashraf Ghani where he tasked all Afghan security institutions to counter Daesh militants in Afghanistan based on the plan and avoid their growth in his country.

The anti-Daesh strategy grants special powers to the Afghan security forces, permitting to introduce any measures necessary to weaken the IS (Islamic State) positions in the country.

According to Afghan official estimates, up to 3,000 Daesh militants have been deployed in the country’s eastern Nangarhar province and might be attempting to create a regional base in the province mountains.

Meanwhile, the Council discussed the plan to ensure security during the Afghan Parliamentary Elections and District Council Elections, the statement added.

According to the statement the preliminary drafted plan for security during the election was reviewed and the security officials were asked to provide the final plan and also the electoral officials were asked to seek funding for the upcoming elections from its international donors.

Currently, Afghanistan is in a critical political and security condition, fighting the Taliban and other armed insurgents across the country while deeply pressed from inside to held the Parliamentary and District Council Elections to pave the way to change the system from Presidential to the Parliamentary.
