Afghanistan Agrees to U.S. Monitored Joint Anti-Terror Operation with Pakistan

The Afghan government agreed the proposal for the joint operations against terrorist groups in the border region with Pakistan with monitoring and verification of the United States.

“President Ghani told American Senators that he supports the joint counter terrorism operation with Pakistan with the monitoring of United States,” said Najibullah Azad, President’s deputy spokesman.

U.S. Senators, led by the Chair of the Armed Services Committee, Senator John McCain, visits Afghanistan following a trip to Pakistan.

In the meantime, the U.S. Senators in their meeting with Afghan Executive Officer, Abdullah Abdullah pointed on cooperation with Afghanistan and said, Pakistan must cooperate with Afghanistan in providing peace and fighting terrorism; otherwise the U.S. will change its policy with Pakistan.

“The current situation is unacceptable in the region. Pakistan should change and reveal new policy,” said U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

CEO Abdullah has also said the gap between people and government has become more and more due to the current situation.

He also emphasized on practical steps for good governance and improving the current situation.

While U.S. Senators expressed concerns over regional countries’ contacts with Taliban, CEO Abdullah stressed that the national interests of the regional countries will never be provided by contact with Taliban.
