Afghanistan Beat West Indies, Keep Hopes Alive for Place in World Cup

Afghanistan kept their hopes alive for a place in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after defeating West Indies by three wickets on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, the West Indies only managed to score 197 for eight off their 50 overs with Shai Hope getting most runs with 43. Marlon Samuels offered support with 36 runs, while captain Jason Holder scored 28 and Evin Lewis 27.

Afghan bowlers  Mujeeb Ur Rahman  took 3-33 and while Mohammad Nabi 2-43.

In their reply, Afghanistan scored 198 for seven off 47.4 overs.

Rahmat Shah (68) top-scored for  Afghanistan  with Mohammad Nabi adding 31 and Samiullah Shenwari 27. 

Jason Holder got 3-39 and Keemo Paul 2-29, but they could not prevent the regional team from crashing to their third defeat in four games against Afghanistan. 

Afghanistan are scheduled to play two more matches including with UAE and Ireland.
