Afghanistan has strongly condemned the construction of a gate at the Torkham crossing in a statement issued by the countries Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

The statement read that Afghanistan considers the construction of a gate at Torkham crossing “unconventional and contrary to the principles of good neighborliness”.

It further says that Afghanistan “contemplates this action of Pakistan” and has called this action “inappropriate” and against the previous agreements and commitments of the two countries.

“The Government of Afghanistan would strictly assess different options to prevent the continuation of these encroachments by Pakistani side,” the statement added.

Recently, 3 Afghan soldiers and one Pakistani army major killed and dozens of others wounded in clashes between the Afghan border forces and Pakistani army forces over the construction of military installations by Pakistan across the Durand line.

Afghanistan does not accept the Durand line as the international border between the two countries, but Pakistan and international community calls it an accepted border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
