Afghanistan condemns Houthi attack on Saudi oil tanker, urges restraint
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has condemned the recent Houthi attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea, calling for restraint and the protection of international maritime security.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry denounced the attack and reaffirmed Afghanistan’s support for safeguarding international sea lanes and ensuring freedom of navigation.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan affirms its firm position calling for safeguarding the security of international maritime passages, ensuring freedom of navigation, and preserving the security and smooth flow of international trade movement,” the statement said.
The ministry stressed that vital maritime routes should be protected from threats or disruption to ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
Afghanistan also called on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could further escalate tensions, and resolve disputes through peaceful means and dialogue.
The statement said such efforts would help strengthen security and stability across the region.
