The Afghan government expects the United States to target the main terrorist’s cores in its new strategy toward Afghanistan.

“Our expectation from U.S. new strategy is fighting with terrorism and to target terrorist hideouts; otherwise it will not have any effect,” said Najibullah Danish, acting spokesman of the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The International analysts in Afghanistan say the Afghan government should lobbying for US officials to focus more on suppressing terrorist groups.

The U.S. in its recent action decided to send 100 more Marines to the Helmand Province to help the 300 Americans who are already there advising and assisting Afghan security forces.

According to US officials, President Donald Trump’s administration is exploring hardening its approach toward Pakistan to crack down on Pakistan-based militants launching attacks in neighboring Afghanistan.

Without more pressure on militants within Pakistan who target Afghanistan, experts say additional U.S. troop deployments will fail to meet their ultimate objective: to pressure the Taliban to eventually negotiate peace.

The Afghan government has long been critical of Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan.
