Speaking at the opening ceremony of  cotton- textile factory in Herat on Saturday, President Ashraf Ghani said that the country needs economic freedom.

“We need to increase [our own] productions, and we shouldn’t need to [import] from abroad,” Ghani said.

Currently, China’s cargo trains enters Afghanistan but returns empty from the country. The President, however, stressed that thereafter, the trains would carry Afghan commercial goods while returning back.

The railway is part of China’s “One Belt, One Road” trade corridor that would cover also Iran.

Ghani further said that China has pledged to invest on Afghanistan’s marble resources and the issue will be discussed at the High Economic Council in two weeks.
