Afghanistan will host regional countries in Brussels with an unprecedented scheme for launching big regional projects.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) says that the improvement in regional cooperation, infrastructure projects and transit facilities will be the main points of this scheme.

“Earlier, an agreement was signed between the ministry of foreign and the finance ministry which was submitted to the authorities of regional countries for review. The aims of the agreement are the improvement of regional cooperation, infrastructure projects and transit facilities. An invitation letter from Afghan government and the European Union will be sent the regional countries for a conference,” said Salahuddin Rabani, the foreign minister.

The presidential palace stated that they have decided to prepare a draft of regional cooperation plans in the next one and a half month to present it in Brussels summit.

“Our aim is to have a draft on infrastructure projects, human investment before the Brussels summit,” said Humayoun Qayoumi, President’s top adviser.

On 5 October, the European Union and the government of Afghanistan will co-host the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan.

This conference will gather up to 70 countries and 30 international organizations and agencies.

It will provide a platform for the government of Afghanistan to set out its vision and track record on reform.

For the international community, it will be the opportunity to signal sustained political and financial support to Afghan peace, state-building and development.

Strong Afghan leadership combined with continued international solidarity and support are needed to continue moving towards the objective of Afghan self-reliance.
