Afghanistan welcomes announcement of $1bn aid from UK
“The contribution is a testimony of the strong partnership of the two nations and a clear vote of confidence to the Afghan government’s reform agenda,” President Ghani said.
In the press release, the President Ghani has assured that the aid package will transparently be used.
“The Afghan government will do all it can to make sure every single cent of it is used transparently to alleviate poverty and promote development and peace,” Ghani added.
The UK commits £750m to help improve health, education and security in Afghanistan, under a major new funding announcement.
UK International Development Secretary, Priti Patel has announced the United Kingdom’s plans to allocate 750 million pounds ($ 973.3 million) towards humanitarian projects in Afghanistan.
The £750 million will come from Britain’s ring-fenced international aid budget and be sent to Afghanistan between 2017 and 2020.
The cash will “help create a more stable country and improve people’s lives – particularly for women and girls.”
The United Kingdom remains a strong ally and contributor to Afghanistan’s security and development in the past 15 years.
