Afghanistan’s first victory in Cricket World Cup by beating Scotland
Afghanistan recorded a historic victory in 2015 Cricket World Cup beating Scotland by one wicket in Dunedin.
Afghanistan lost 5-12 to at one stage be 8-132, putting Scotland on track for what would have been their first-ever Cup win.
Majid Haq and Alasdair Evans shared a 62-run partnership for the ninth wicket to lift Scotland to 210, their highest total at the Cricket World Cup, after batting first in Thursday’s Pool A match against Afghanistan.
Afghanistan won the toss and reduced Scotland to 8-144 in a match between teams chasing their first wins in a World Cup match before Haq made 31 and Evans 28 in a partnership which carried Scotland past its previous highest score at a World Cup, the 6-186 they made against South Africa in 2007.
Shapoor Zadran took 4-38 for Afghanistan.
Cricket has been played in Afghanistan since the mid 19th century, but it is only in recent years that the national team has become successful.
