AGO Says Former Telecommunication Minister’s Case Is Not Yet Finalized

The Office of the Attorney General (AGO) says that its case regarding the former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdul Razaq Wahidi, is not yet finalized.

The former Minister, Abdul Razaq Wahidi was suspended from his position nine months ago, after being accused of corruption. The Attorney General Office (AGO), said on Tuesday that former Telecommunication Minister’s case is not yet finalized and the office will soon announce its final decision.   

“This case is still under consideration and the Attorney General’s Office will soon announce its final decision in [this] regard,” said AGO Spokesman, Jamshid Rasooli.

Recently, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, in a meeting with Wahidi, declared him innocent of the charges.

Former Minister Wahidi claimed that his case was being “politicized.”

“Still, I don’t know the reason behind my suspension. The reason is not clear yet and the Attorney General Office is politicizing the case,” Wahidi said.

The Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC), declared that Wahidi has been involved in corruption, and had also failed to collect taxes due from Afghanistan’s telecommunications sector.
