AIHRC Urges ICC Probe into Human Rights Violations

Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to launch an investigation into human rights violations in Afghanistan.

Addressing a gathering on Wednesday that also included top government officials, the head of AIHRC, Sima Samar said that considering the ongoing situation in Afghanistan, the country’s legal and judicial institutions might not able to address the war crimes, therefore, the Afghan government could ask for the help of the International Criminal Court (ICC), “so that justice is being provided to the victims.”

Considering the recent attacks in the country as “war crimes”, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) expressed concerns over the attacks in which particular ethnic sects being targeted.

“UNAMA is extremely concerned about the attacks that deliberately targeting persons belonging to certain ethnic religious communities,” said UNAMA’s Director of Human Rights in Afghanistan, Danielle Bell.

Following the matter, Deputy Attorney General, Wahiduddin Arghon said that 2017 has been the deadliest year for Afghanistan as the terrorist groups targeted civilians using various tactics.
