Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has expressed concern about the harassment of women in Afghan police.

The commission has urged abolition of impunity culture against those who are harassing women.

Sima Samar, the head of AIHRC said: “The culture of impunity against those who are violating Human Rights and abusing & harassing women should be canceled.”

The Interior Ministry (MoI); however, said efforts underway for the betterment of women’s situation in the Afghan police.

The Deputy Minister of Administration at MoI, Akraamuddin Bawar said: “Women hold special place in the Ministry of Interior and all of them have the respect and absolute harmony of working there.”

AIHRC further stressed on the capacity building and increase of policewomen in the country.

Samar added: “We hope the Interior Ministry work further on strengthening the capacity of women, apart from their own capacity building programs.”

It comes as there are about 3,000 policewomen in the Afghan police army across the country.
