Aircraft crashes in Badakhshan

An aircraft crashed in Afghanistan’s northeast Badakhshan province on Saturday night, police said.

The aircraft crashed into high mountains in Topkhana area of Zebak district, the provincial police said in a statement.

Russian aviation authorities said on Sunday a Russian-registered plane with six people thought to be on board disappeared from radar screens over Afghanistan the previous night, Reuters reported.

Russian aviation authorities said in a statement the plane was a charter ambulance flight traveling from India, via Uzbekistan to Moscow on a French-made Dassault Aviation (AM.PA), opens new tab Falcon 10 jet manufactured in 1978.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Transport and Aviation in a statement said that the crash happened possibly due to technical issues around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

It said that the route of the flight had not been planned via Afghanistan. The ministry said that its technical team has launched an investigation into the incident.
