Angry Residents Closed School in Kabul Due to Lack of Teachers

 The lack of adequate teachers led to closedown of Shahrak-e-Khurasan state-run high school in PD16 of Kabul city where at least 5,000 students are studying.

A number of Kabul PD16 residents on Saturday said that although they have referred to the Ministry of Education (MoE) many times, no attention has been paid to their demands.

They closed the school as a protest action.

Mohammad Essa, a resident of the area, said that MoE has paid no attention to their problems and even the Directorate of Education denied meeting them.

“There is a shortage of 40 to 50 teachers at the school,” stated one of the school’s teachers.

At the same time, MoE assures that “the problem will be handled in a day.”

Shafiqullah Tawfiqy, an official in the Education Directorate of Kabul, promised that they will fill the vacant slots of the school by tomorrow.

He added that if the problem was not solved by tomorrow, the people can continue their protest.

This comes as the government has declared that dozens of schools will be build up across the country this year; however, citizens urge the government to solve the existing problems at schools.
