At least 26 Afghan Soldiers Killed in Kandahar Base Attack: MoD Confirms

As many as 26 Afghan soldiers have been killed in Taliban’s attack on a military base in southern Kandahar province, the Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

 The Defense Ministry Spokesman Dawlat Waziri said that , 13 Afghan soldiers were injured in the attack which happened on Karzyali camp in Khakrez district on Tuesday night.

Local security sources told Ariana News that many more of the soldiers went missing. 

The Taliban claimed the  responsibility for the attack, saying the group captured the base and killed 70 soldiers.

Local security officials, however, rejected the Taliban’s claim, adding that additional troops being deployed in the area.

The tragedy comes as the Taliban stepped up their insurgency across the country.  The group  captured three districts in the different zones, including Taywara in Ghor, Kohistan in Faryab and Janikheil in Paktia provinces.

Though,  Kohistan district was reclaimed by the government forces on Tuesday.
