Suicide Blast Kills At least Five, Wounds 21 in Kabul Diplomatic Zone

A suicide bomber struck the diplomatic area in the  capital Kabul  on Tuesday, killing at least five people and wounding 21 more, according to Health Ministry. 

The explosion happened at around 4 p.m. in Wazir Akbar Khan area of the city, where many foreign embassies and government departments are based.

The Interior Ministry Spokesman, Najib Danish, however, confirmed four dead and 13 injured in the incident, all civilians. 

The Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Dawlat Waziri said in a statement the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber and the target of the bombing was the ministry’s international relations directorate.

According to Waziri, no one from the defense ministry was hurt in the attack.

Police told Ariana News that the investigations are underway.

Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was a suicide mission using an explosives vest.
