UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said that British troops are to complete their withdrawal from Afghanistan at the end of the year but Britain will always be a “strong partner and good friend to Afghanistan.

David Cameron, on an unannounced visit to Kabul calls on Afghanistan’s new president to govern fairly and restore unity in the country.

“I want to pay tribute to President Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah for the courage and determination they have shown in the formation of this national unity government,” Cameron said at a press conference. “They have put the hopes of the millions of Afghans who braved insecurity and threats to vote in April and June first.”

“Britain has paid a very high price for our engagement in Afghanistan. We’ve done vital work here, but we should remember those who have paid the ultimate price and been injured from the work they did here,” Cameron added.

Britain will continue to provide £178 million a year in aid to the country and British forces will train Afghan officers at a training camp known as “Sandhurst in the sand.”
