At least one civilian was killed and 13 others including three women were injured after a suicide attacker detonated a car bomb in Hawa Shinasi area of Kabul airport, Afghan officials said on Monday.

The Sunday’s explosion occurred near the airport’s eastern gate around 8:00 am, which is used by NATO and coalition forces.

Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul police chief who was speaking with the reporters at the site of the explosion said that the target of the explosion was civilians and innocent Afghans.

Immediately after the attack, Taliban claimed the responsibility of the attack saying the target of the attack was a convoy of foreign troops.

The attack comes a day after Pakistan army chief General Raheel Sharif visited Kabul to prepare the ground for revival of peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban group.
