China sends train-load of aid to Afghanistan

A train carrying about 500 tons of humanitarian aid has departed from Xinjiang for Afghanistan, China’s envoy to Kabul Wang Yu said Sunday.

The train with around 500 tons of wheat, sugar, cooking oil and potato processing machines has left Xinjiang, China, Wang tweeted.

He added that this train, the second from China, will arrive in Afghanistan next month.

He stressed that his country is committed to helping the people of Afghanistan.

This comes amid a growing humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has warned that millions of Afghans are in the brink of starvation.

Muttaqi invited to visit Qatar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday announced that acting minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has been invited to visit Qatar.

The invitation was extended by Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for the Foreign Affairs of Qatar, who met Muttaqi in Kabul.

In the meeting, the Qatari official considered the conditions of the Islamic Emirate for participation in the third Doha meeting as reasonable, adding that everyone believes that without the presence of the Islamic Emirate, the meeting will be fruitless, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Meanwhile, Muttaqi, while clarifying the position of the Islamic Emirate, expressed his satisfaction regarding the inclusion of the issues of climate change, private sector and drugs in the upcoming Doha meeting.

He appreciated Qatar’s stance on the Palestinian issue and urged its help in creation of job opportunities for Afghan workers and in releasing the frozen assets of Da Afghanistan Bank.

Based on the statement, the Qatari official called Afghanistan his second home and assured of his country’s cooperation in the economic, political, health, infrastructure projects and banking sector.

He added that Qatar wants to build a 400-bed hospital in Kandahar province.

Qatar’s invitation to Muttaqi comes as the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled to be held on June 30.

Hanafi urges Islamic countries help create job opportunities and prevent migration

Abdulsalam Hanafi, Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, on Thursday urged the Islamic countries and aid organizations to assist in creating job opportunities and prevent migration of youths to other countries.

Hanafi made the remarks in a meeting with a visiting Turkish delegation in Kabul. led by Atilla Toros, head of the Interior Ministry’s Directorate of Migration Management.

According a statement released by Arg, Hanafi called on Turkey to pay attention to the problems of Afghan refugees in order to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Toros said that Turkey wants to invest in various sectors, including mining, energy and transportation in Afghanistan.

He also assured of Turkey’s continued assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

The Turkish delegation also met with Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the focus of the meeting was migration, strengthening bilateral cooperation, managing illegal migration, fighting mafia activities and facilitating the issuance of visas for Afghans.

The two sides discussed also the expansion of economic and trade relations between the two countries, the growth of the private sector and the existing investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

Haqqani meets with top Qatari official in Kabul

Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met with Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for the Foreign Affairs of Qatar, to discuss bilateral political and economic issues, it was announced on Thursday.

According to a statement released by the Interior Ministry, in the meeting the two sides agreed on the expansion and continuation of bilateral cooperation.

Based on the statement, the Qatari official announced that Qatar will stand by the “brother country” of Afghanistan in any situation.

He expressed hope that Afghanistan will strengthen and progress in the political, security and economic fields.

On the other hand, while thanking the Qatari delegation for their good wishes, the Acting Minister of Interior appreciated the efforts of the “brother country” of Qatar regarding Afghanistan.

Sirajuddin Haqqani also thanked the Qatari government for its emergency assistance to flood affected families in Afghanistan.

The visit of the high-level Qatari delegation to Kabul comes as Doha is expected to host the third meeting of special representatives of the countries for Afghanistan on June 30.
