Daesh claims responsibility for Nangarhar explosions

Islamic State (ISIS-K/Daesh) has claimed responsibility for a series of bomb blasts in the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan, the group’s Amaaq News Agency said on its Telegram channel on Sunday.

“More than 35 Taliban (Islamic Emirate) militia members were killed or wounded, in a series of explosions that took place,” ISIS said, referring to blasts on Saturday and Sunday.

There was no immediate comment from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan about the death toll.

Islamic Emirate officials said on Sunday that at least two people were killed and 15 wounded in Saturday’s explosions.

Eyewitnesses and Nangarhar hospital sources said the death toll was seven and 25 wounded.

This comes after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and American intelligence officials warned last week that al-Qaeda or ISIS-K could regenerate in Afghanistan and pose a threat to the United States in one year to two years.

According to ARCS, the meeting focused on support for people affected by natural disasters, Afghan returnees and other vulnerable groups, particularly their urgent humanitarian and healthcare needs.

Delawar thanked the United Kingdom for its humanitarian assistance to people affected by natural disasters and briefed Lindsay on the ARCS’s humanitarian and healthcare activities.

He highlighted the society’s services for children with congenital heart defects at its cardiac hospital, vocational training and skills development programs for vulnerable women and children across seven regional zones, mental healthcare services, and assistance to communities affected by natural disasters.

Referring to the return of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, Delawar said many families urgently need shelter, food, non-food items and medical services. He called for greater UK cooperation to help meet returnees’ basic needs.

Lindsay praised the ARCS’s humanitarian work and pledged continued cooperation in supporting returnees and other humanitarian initiatives in the coming year. He also said he would seek to facilitate effective cooperation with the society in the healthcare sector.
