Following the tensions on recognizing the Durand line as the official border line of Af-Pak, a number of parliamentarians call the government to take the issue to the international court of justice.

The parliamentarians insist leaving the issue unsolved would further escalate Af-Pak political tensions.

“The government has not provided any legal official document to the UN for consideration; therefore, any discussion about Durand would draw no result. The issue needs to be resolved through international references,” chairman of the parliament, Raouf Enami said.

Nahid Farid, a parliamentarian from southern Herat province says,” we have to responsibly decide about the matter by issuing it to international court of justice. That would be the only way to reach a desired conclusion.”

Some members of parliament however insist only the people of Afghanistan have the ultimate right to resolve the issue by calling a Loya Jirga.

Raouf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house concludes that,” Durand is a national issue which belongs to the people of the country. None of us are authorized to decide about. To have the vote of majority of the people, we need to call a Loya Jirga.”

Members of the parliament emphasize that recognizing the Durand line as the official border point of the two countries without asking incentives from Pakistan would be a national treasury.
