Afghan Electoral Observing Institutions have called on new electoral commissioners to act nonpolitical and to maintain their independency.

“We want the new electoral commissioners to begin work as soon as possible and set the time of upcoming election,” said Rahmatullah Salehi, civil society activist.

People welcomes this process, but demand from government to not interfere in electoral affairs by the name of deeper reforms.

“We have our concerns, because we do not know that the selections were made by what criteria, but fear is still there that the process once again be questioned,” said Naeem Asghari, head of Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA) programs.

The selection of new commissioners is the first practical step of President Ghani and CEO, Abdullah Abdullah in implementation of the National Unity Government agreement.
