ERC calls on NUG for earlier start of practical process of reforms
Chairman of Election Reforms Commission (ERC) called on National Unity Government (NUG) leaders to begin reforms practical process in the nearest time.
Shah Sultan Akefi, head of Election Reforms Commission (ERC) emphasized that the electoral bodies must respect reform of the election system.
“This is the authorities of NUG’s leaders to begin practical process of reforms and they should take a decision regarding the issue as soon as possible because if the election postpones the country will go into crisis,” Shah Sultan Akefi said.
He also said to consider the costs of election process difficult for Afghan government and stressed on distribution of electronic ID cards.
In the meantime, Civil Society network to strengthen the electoral process said that electoral fraud and irregularities should be criminalized.
According to the network, collection of people’s opinions for modification of the electoral system had many shortcomings.
“Our demand is that the proposal package of election reforms commission must be shared with people and fraud should be criminalized,” Teymour Hakemyar, member of Civil Society Network said.
The Election Reforms Commission presented its 11 proposals package to the government after collecting people’s opinions.
According to the package, all voting cards revoked, A third of parliamentary positions allocated to parties and members of the election commission be reduced from 9 to 7 members.
