The European Union (EU) has called on the armed Taliban group to consider the Afghan government’s peace offer and start peace-talks.

“The message I want to pass to them is, please consider this offer. We as European Union encourage you to seize that offer and to start a discussion. We support the dialogue,” said Roland Kobia, the EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan.

Roland Kobia at the end of Kabul Process Conference emphasized on long-term continuation of European countries cooperation with Afghanistan.

The EU is said to believe that war is not the solution for Afghanistan’s crisis and prevents peace.

“2018 and 2019 are crucial electoral years in Afghanistan. Parliamentary election in this year and the presidential election in next year. Certainly, fighters are offered a fantastic opportunity which is to give up armed insurgency and consider a legal way to access power, They have chance to seize and I hope they will seize it,” said Pierre Mayaudon, EU ambassador to Afghanistan.

The second meeting of ‘Kabul Process’ held today  with the participation of the representatives of 25 countries and three international organizations, the EU, UN and NATO.
