Executive Office Calls for End to ARG-Jamiat Tensions

The Executive Office has called for a quick end to the tensions between the Presidential Palace-(ARG) and Jamiat Islami party, the spokesperson said.

“Talks are still ongoing between ARG and Atta Muhammad Noor and we are waiting for a result. The Chief Executive wants the tensions solve through talks,” said Jawid Faisal, the spokesman of Executive Office.

Afghan analysts are said to believe that the continuation of tensions between ARG and Jamiat will worsen the situation and it needs to be end as soon as possible.

“The issue should be solved between the two sides. The current situation has affected on people’s trust and investments,” said Mawla Muahammad Paiman, political analyst.

The ousted Afghan governor, Atta Muhammad Noor who fired by President Ashraf Ghani has refused to leave a post he has held for 13 years.

Noor previously claimed that President Ghani did not have the power to unilaterally remove him because his party had half of the seats in the coalition government.

He has negotiated with Ghani for over a year in order to gain a greater share of power for his political party, Jamiat-e Islami.

Atta has also threatened imminent mass demonstrations if Ghani does not agree to electoral and constitutional reforms.
