Around 200 were killed and dozens were injured in an intense clash between the two groups of Taliban in Shindand district of Herat province.

The battle in Shindand district is not the first instance of rivalry between Taliban leaders bursting into the open.

Spokesman of Herat governor says that dozens of families have been displaced and Taliban yet have not reacted regarding the issue.

The fighting, in one of the Taliban’s traditional southern strongholds, underlined the risk of fragmentation facing the Islamist movement.

There has been a rise in sectarian killings in Afghanistan this year, blamed by observers on the growing influence of foreign fighters and the Taliban group in the country.
