Afghan intelligence operatives have arrested a group of nine kidnappers including a woman from the capital Kabul during a complex operation.

On Sunday, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement that the group members were arrested during a raid from the vicinity of police district 11 of the city.

The gang was led by Sayed Mustafa Akbari also known as Agha Saheb, the statement added.

In a separate case, Akbari was sentenced for 15 years in prison, but he was released after six years in prison.

In a video footage released, the head of the gang confesses that along with his aides he kidnapped a five-year-old girl named “Parisa” about a month ago while she was on her way to school in Kabul.

Later the kidnappers had taken the child to neighboring Pakistan and demanded a ransom of $105,000 from his father for her release.

According to the statement, after complex operations in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces, the child was released and was given to her family.
